When I realised I had damp on a wall, I asked my insurance company for advise. They told me to use trademark.org to find a builder to get a cause of damage report, despite me questioning whether I needed a damp proofer. Not only did the report cost me a fortune, I'd also asked for a quote on a complete job. I was quoted excl. rubbish removal. Annoyed, I went to Wigan's good trader scheme and did things my way. I found W. Evans Damp Proofing. I contacted them, they came to look at my wall, sent me a free quote on complete job which incl. removal of rubbish like any other professional tradesmen. I booked them in, they arrived 3, early on the day of the job, and despite having to nip out to pick up a few things, the job was complete in less than half a day. Same people quoting me, did the work. They listened to what I wanted and did what I asked, and did what they said they would. I am happy with the job done, and should I need this service again, I would definitely use this company, as well as recommend them to others. Currently just waiting for my warranty certificate to arrive.

My first contact with this company was Wez himself. He said he would come round that day to look at the job, which was certainly efficient. However, it wasn't Wez but another person called Derek. I explained what needed doing and he gave me a date and a price for the job. I telephoned prior to this date just to confirm it was going ahead. The day arrived, and the lads were bang on time, in fact 5 minutes early. I was expecting Wez and Derek. No, it was 2 other guys. I pointed out where the damp was, and work commenced. Gareth disappeared and Sonny did what he'd been asked to do. He was a delight to talk to and we put the world to rights. A lovely lad. In the meantime, time was ticking by and nothing was happening. The materials to do the job obviously hadn't been brought. Eventually, Gareth appeared with said materials, and things cracked on a pace after I had explained that the damp in the chimney breast also needed attention. This had got lost in translation. After waiting 3 weeks for the damp proof certificate, I had to eventually ring up to ask for it. My advice to anyone using this company is to make sure that you reach an agreement that on the day arranged, the materials needed will be brought with them, and if someone else arrives to do the job, the correct information has been passed on, and also no one disappears for 2 hours bringing the work to a full stop. I would have given a higher rating because Gareth is excellent and Sonny is mad keen to learn the trade. I wish him every success.
